Level IV_ Blog 8: English language challenges
For me, speaking in general has always been complex, as I suffer from a condition called "ankyloglossia" or tongue-tie, which is a disorder in which an unusually short, thick or tight band of tissue (lingual frenulum) sticks the underside of the tip of the tongue to the base of the mouth, In my case my tongue is not completely attached to the base of the mouth but I do have a frenulum that is too short, which makes it difficult for me to produce certain sounds when I speak or simply cannot generate them, it also causes me to get very tangled, almost sounding like I stutter, something that happens to me especially when I try to speak faster.
This was complex for me in college, because, at least the first
teacher I had in English (level II), did not consider it, did not understand my
situation, and did not care, however, with the other two teachers I have had in
English III and English IV, my experience was much more pleasant, since the
teachers assigned to me, if they are aware of every situation of their
students, understanding every problem, and in general, they are much nicer
people, both as teachers and as people.
In their classes they do practical exercises both for learning and
for execution, one of these exercises are the blogs, which in my opinion are
very useful for learning about the language, practicing conjugations, etc.
These in turn deal with topics of interest to each student, have a general
theme, but each one decides what to mention, also serving to know a little
about the life of the rest; on the other hand if I were given to choose an
aspect of my English to improve, I think it would be on the subject I already
mentioned, the modulate things well, trying to make these sounds that according
to doctors, I can not generate.
Now thinking about the day to day, with respect to English,
outside of class its use for me is practically null, I use it for basic things
like translating the instructions of a product or things like that, however, I
would like to use it more, and in this way it becomes something of the day to
day.
